Botulinum Toxin relaxes the facial muscles that are connected to expression lines so that they cannot contract. It does this by blocking impulses from the nerve endings to the tiny facial muscles. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled and the untreated facial muscles function normally.
Botulinum Toxin injections have safely been used for many years to treat lines and wrinkles and also to manage many neurological and ophthalmological conditions. Tens of thousands of people have received Botulinum Toxin to relieve a variety of conditions and it is certainly a very popular anti-ageing treatment.
There are very few side effects to treatment but some people can experience some minor and temporary soreness and swelling at the injection site.
The treatment involves a small number of tiny and practically painless injections. Immediately afterwards there may be some mild swelling and soreness that usually subsides within 24-48 hours
We have two practitioners in clinic who deliver our injectable treatments; Mr Rob Winterton, Consultant Plastic Surgeon who visits the clinic on a weekly basis, and Dr Fiona Cowie, Medical Aesthetic Practitioner who visits the clinic on a sessional basis.
