Take a look at our Treatment Summary to help give you an idea if the basics
when it comes to treating red veins and rosacea at the Lynton Clinic:
Carried out by our laser experts
Some people just have a few small broken vessels round the nose, cheeks and chin are common areas. Whilst others may have a red appearance with episodes of red flushing, this is more likely to be rosacea, with other symptoms such as:
- burning and stinging sensations
- permanent redness
- spots (papules and pustules)
- small blood vessels in the skin becoming visible
Rosacea is a relapsing condition, which means there are periods when symptoms are particularly bad, followed by periods when the condition is less severe.
Many of the symptoms of red veins and rosace can be controlled with treatments such as IPL (intense pulsed light) and laser.

FAQ
IPL works by emitting filtered light which is readily absorbed by blood vessels heating them to point where they are destroyed. With Rosacea, we can shut down some of the larger, more noticeable vessels but for the majority, we aim to stimulate collagen within the skin to help strengthen the capillary walls resulting in Rosacea flare-ups being less often and less severe. During treatment a thin layer of chilled gel is applied to the skin to aid light absorption by the vessels. The light is then pulsed over the entire area to be treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled. During the treatment, protective eyewear will be worn Following treatment, Rosacea can immediately look worse as we have put more heat into the skin but usually calms down within 48 hours.
Typically a minimum course of 5 treatments are needed for optimum results, although you will need maintenance treatments which varies from client to client as to how often. Repeat sessions are spaced every four to six weeks.
Treatment is relatively quick and can be just 20minutes for cheeks or up to 45 minutes for a full face.
Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but there is no need for anesthesia and the procedure is actually quite quick. Sensations vary but most people describe it as a very quick, hot pin prick. We provide plenty of cooling throughout and after the treatment to reduce any discomfort.
As Rosacea is a poorly understood condition and treatment is about management of the condition, results can vary from person to person. Clients do usually see improvements in flare-ups of Rosacea within the first 3 treatments but maintenance treatments will be necessary to keep on top of the condition.
