Pigmentation Treatments & Solutions
- Great if you’re after a more even skin tone
- You want to reduce areas of excess freckling
- You are concerned with a certain age spot/freckle
Freckles, sun spots, liver or age spots and other unwanted pigmentation are often associated with skin ageing and sun damage caused by over exposure to the sun or sunbeds. Generally, these pigmentation spots pose no health risk, however they can be unsightly and create a patchy, less youthful appearance. Freckling and age spots are successfully lightened or removed with either a
Q-Switch Laser or Intense Pulse Light (IPL).

Most people experience little more than slight reddening and possibly mild swelling which usually disappears within a couple of hours to a couple of days. Very rarely a small blister may form or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur
Generally any area on the body can be treated but we do find that the most common areas to be treated are face, neck, decollete and hands.
The pigment will darken over the following few days after treatment and may appear more obvious for around 1-3 weeks. It can also feel a little bit dry and flaky during this time before the pigment actually flakes off and you should be left with an area without excess pigmentation.
Treatment can be mildly uncomfortable, like the sensation of a hot pin prick, and a warm, tingling sensation, not unlike sunburn, can be experienced afterwards.
Most people are suitable for treatment except for very dark skinned or tanned clients. We also cannot treat moles or any raised pigmentation patches; these would be better suited for a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon to remove.
Generally 1-3 treatments are sufficient for freckles, sun spots and age spots at 4-6 week intervals.
The Laser/IPL releases short bursts of light that is readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin (colour) found within freckles, sun spots or age spots. The quick absorption of light heats the melanin and destroys the melanin-rich cells without affecting the surrounding skin.
